RSC Dominates Class D Men's Double

Although the road to be on top maybe hard to achieve, the Riyadh Shuttlers Club (RSC) proves that winning, with a blend of honesty, fairness in seeding and valued sportsmanship, is more essential than supremacy.



RSC landed as 2nd runner-up behind Baddicts Arabia and Pinoy Badminton Club in the recent "Beat the Summer Heat Open Badminton Tournament" organized by the Filipino Badminton Federation – Riyadh last April 25 and May 1-2, 2008 at the Philippine Sunrise International School (PSIS).



RSCeans dominates the Class D Men’s Double category when 3 teams emerged as the top winners.



Buboy Isidoro and Jihad Tumangan was declared as over-all Champion followed by the tandem of fellow RSCeans Tommy Ambagan & Leo Non and Danny Tenerife and Dexter Sangil who won 1st and 2nd runner-up respectively.



Kristine Martinez and Anita Fernandez won 1st Runner-up in the D Women’s Category and Irma Tenerife and Eloisa Syfu was proclaimed as 2nd runner-up in the Class E Women’s Double.

Party all Night!

Riyadh Shuttlers Club (RSC) members, together with their families and friends enjoyed the Awarding Ceremony and overnight party last Thursday, April 10, 2008 at Estiraha in Exit 8.

Dexter Sangil, VP for Internal Affairs and Tournament Director, facilitated the awarding of trophies and medals to the winners of the recently concluded RSC 2008 Internal Tournament.

Special Awards were also given to the following:

1. Best Defensive Player – Chris Luzana
2. Best Double Players – Yaseer Arafat Jaweed and Danny Palisoc
3. Most Improved Player – Alexis Pasco
4. Best Smasher – Tom Ambagan
5. Mr. Suave (?) Player – Buboy Ibanez

Trophies and Medals were donated by Jong Durago and Dexter Sangil respectively.

Likewise, 3 RSC members, who will be going back to the Philippines for their subsequent studies, were given recognition by RSC. They are Richzelle Pamfilo, Salahuddin Mauntol and Edcor Quiambao.

The occasion was more exciting during the Bingo Bonanza, which lasted until 2:00 in the morning, where everyone was given a chance to win valuable prizes donated by Mr. & Mrs. Mabaning, Edward Padilla, Noche Mabaning, Tom Ambagan, Vince & Marite Mangawang, Erwin Serrano, Ms. Helen Casal (c/o Buboy Ibanez), Bert Beja, Johnson Boado, Leo Obmerga & Jimmy Bruno Family.

Kids enjoyed plunging into the pool amidst the chilly ambiance, while their parents amused themselves together in a videoke fun and card games.

Kalayaan 2008 Awarding Ceremony Highlights

The Kalayaan Cup 2008 was officially closed after the Awarding Ceremony held at the IPSR Multi Purpose Court last Thursday, 28 Feb. 2008.

Although the plan was to hold the event at the Philippine Embassy, there was a last-minute change of venue due to the non-issuance of permit from the Ministry to allow visitors to enter the DQ premises on week-end.

Attache Reynold Banda, Chairman of the event, acknowledged the relentless effort of the organizing committee for a successful undertaking that had raised funds of more than 3,000SR, which will be used to purchase airfare tickets for male distressed OFWs.

On the other hand, Noche Mabaning, RSC President and co-chairman of the tournament, expressed her optimistic call for a united badminton clubs in Riyadh.

Elite Badminton Club and Riyadh Expats Shuttlers Club were declared as Champions of this year’s Kalayaan tournament.

Logo Making Contest

RSC will be holding a Logo Making Contest. Interested RSCeans must submit their entry(ies) on January 9, 2008 (Wednesday) during the practice. The entry(ies) must be in A4 size.
Winner will receive one month free membership fee.

RSCeans are among the best in the Kingdom

RSCeans players prove that they can beat other top badminton players in the kingdom.

Class E tandem of Leo Non and Jessie Villanueva (Men's Double) emerged as winners in Team Event category.

Likewise, the unbeatable tandem of Aileen Lejano and Noche Mabaning made it as the Champion in Women's Double (both in Team Event and the Open Category Division).

The most promising young tandem of Salah Mauntol and Edcor Quiambao was the most remarkable achievement by RSC players when they emerged as Champion in Open Category Men's Double - Class E. These two senior students of International Phil. School in Riyadh (IPSR) beat the veterans players in Riyadh.

Inter-Regional Badminton Tournament

Good Day RSC MEMBERS,

Greetings!

As you all know the Regional Tournament is fast approaching (20 & 21 December). I would like to congratulate the following RSC Members who were chosen to participate in the Team Events:

1. Rasheed - Team C1
2. Edward - Team D1
3. Ailyne - Team D1 (originally C1 but due to the inavailability of Jeddah players all female players in class C were pulled down to D)
4. Jessie - Team E2
5. Leo - Team E2
6. Nitz - Team D3
I'd like everyone to be aware that there still may be some major changes. Especially since the visiting teams cannot bring as much as 42 delegates to Riyadh. The deliberation made by the Tournament's Technical Committee was attended by our very own VP Internal Affairs Jasper and VP Membership Tommy...

As announced by Jasper, the 2nd portion of the Tournament has been declared by the FBF-Riyadh (Filipino Badminton Federation) as an OPEN Tournmanet. All RSC members who are interested to participate are highly encouraged to do so. Further details will be provided to you by tomorrow at our RSC Regular Day.

Let me take this opportunity as well to encourage everyone to attend the Practice tomorrow as we are not scheduled for practice on Thursday. WE WILL BE HAVING A GENERAL ASSEMBLY at 9:30 PM. Likewise, I am highly encouraging the Internal Committee to devise a game schedule for tomorrow so that we can fully maximize our Practice Day prior to the holidays.

I am also encouraging everyone who will be in Riyadh during the Holidays to attend, watch and simply be a part of the Regional Tournament. Let us all be a part of something good and discourage partisan and separitist actions that can lead to animosity within the Club. The RSC is THE PIONEER IN PINOY BADMINTON here in Riyadh... I'm sure we're all proud of that...

RSC-PBC FRIENDSHIP GAME

A friendship game was held last November 1, 2007 between Riyadh Shuttlers Club (RSC) and Pinoy Badminton Club (PBC) at the International Phil. School in Riyadh.

PBC won over RSC by 13 points.

PBC dominated the E1, E2, D2, D1 and C2 Categories while RSC won the B Category and some C1, C2 and D1 Categories.

The B Category Tandem of Edward Padilla and Rasheed Kamlian of RSC won over the PBC players.

Round 1: RSC Team B is assured of the No. 1 spot

Riyadh Shuttlers Club (Team B) initially won 3 out of 5 games during the opening of the Elite Invitational Badminton Tournament last Friday (October 5, 2007).

If not for the ill-fated incident that occured around 3:00pm, C-1 game between RSC and BAR could have been won by RSC and made it to top spot in Round 1.

RSC Team B earned 12 points (with one unfinished game) while SBAHC B got 15 points with no game remaining.

If Tommy Ambagan-Edcor Quiambao tandem (C-1) will win the unfinished game, RSC will be No. 1 in the first round of the tournament. (Their game ended 9-8 during the second set in favor of RSC.)

C4 (Male Double) Tandem of Boyet Basilan and Glenn Paz won and got 3 pts., C3 (Mixed Double) pair of Dennis Lejano and Irma Tenerife won and got 4 points, C2 (Female double) partners Sarah Bairulla and Ritzhelle Pamfilo earned 5 points.

RSC conducts weekly Clinics

As part of the Internal Affairs Committee's program for 2007-2008, RSCean Rasheed Kamlian conducts weekly Badminton Clinics to all members of Riyadh Shuttlers Club. Rasheed is a veteran player and won in various tournaments in the Philippines and Riyadh.

RSC's objective is to enhance the skills and continue to teach the basic and advance techniques in playing badminton.

At present, RSC welcomes badminton enthusiasts in Riyadh to join the club. Interested persons may contact the Membership Committee (c/o VP Tom Ambagan @ 0565901636) or proceed to International Philippine School in Riyadh Wednesday and Thursday from 9:00pm to 12:00pm.

RSC joins Elite Badminton Tournament

Riyadh Shuttlers Club (RSC) accepts the invitation of Elite Badminton Club (EBC) to the 1st EBC Badminton Invitation Club to be held at Elite International School starting October 5, 2007.

The tournament is non-commercial and only legitimate members of badminton clubs in Riyadh are allowed to join.

During the Executive Committee meeting of RSC last Wednesday, the board approved to field-in two (2) teams chosen from the finest and the best players of RSC.
